Which TV shows did you let go of in 2011?
True Blood. Just. Fuck that entire season, fuck that show, fuck Alan Ball for not getting the fun potential of it all and making the show become a bloated exercise of wasted characters. They took my favorite book from the series and completely went off the rails and destroyed some of my favorite characters (I'm not talking about Eric here) for pointless storylines that went nowhere.
The season ended with the queer and POC characters having no agency or winding up dead. Congratulations. I hate you.
Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2011? Why?
The Eleventh Doctor's run. One day I'll watch it. One day.
Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2012?
...I don't have any yet. :-/ Any suggestions?
Which TV show impressed you least in 2011?
American Horror Story. Hot mess. Reminded me of the bad times between me & Nip/Tuck. Stopped watching it a few eps back. Don't regret my decision at all.
Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2012 unless things significantly improve?
The Walking Dead. I haven't seen the last couple of episodes because save for like, 2 of "our heroes" I sort of want everyone to become zombified and GO AWAY.
Which TV show impressed you the most in 2011? Why?
Parks & Rec, followed by Community. P&R is a show where actions matter, where being a good person is rewarded (and not always in an expected way), where friendships are important. Stable relationships whether or not they are romantic are seen as a GOOD thing and worth cultivating and everyone gets to interact. The main two friendships on the show are solid. "Leslie loves Ann more than Ben." [cut to Ann's pleased smile] Also, it's one of the most feminist shows I've ever seen and Leslie Knope is the best female character on TV as of late.
Community took some amazing risks in storytelling in 2011. It honestly blew me away several times. I think S3 suffered a little by daring to make Jeff so unlikeable and unbalanced and I hope they get to come back because man, they earned it. For the Glee mocking episode alone. I need to know how they'll do at Regionals, man!
Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
I have a pretty low limit for shitty shows so I don't think anything qualifies here. Once my patience is worn, it's gone for good.
Shows I watched and loved that aren't mentioned on this list because I started them in another year.
Mad Men. So happy it'll be back next year.
Er, I watched Game of Thrones this year but it didn't qualify for anything above, so yeah, going to watch that next year for sure.
Your main fandom of the year?
Glee, lol. That show is a hot mess but it's got some compelling characters and canonical gay couples that I adore.
Your favorite film you watched this year?
Welp, Sherlock Holmes for now because JESUS, there was no subtext at all. The Muppet Movie was pretty great too.
Your favorite book read this year?
GOD, I am the worst when it comes to reading, I've just been rereading shit. Um, I really enjoyed World War Z.
Your favorite tv show of the year?
Parks & Rec!
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Avengers Tony/Steve movieverse fic. There is some awesome fic out there.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I...tend not to be disappointed by fandom when it comes to fannish stuff? I mean beyond the usual "so and so is being a dick or gross" drama or "that's now how sex works" my ~feelings on writing porn opinions.
Your fiction boyfriend of the year?
Mike Chang. We can be judgmental about Channing Tatum's career together. Then he'll take me dancing.
Your fiction girlfriend of the year?
It's very late in the year but I think I'm dating Sugar Motta right now. Since Korra is already engaged to half the internet and her show hasn't even started yet.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Kurt/Blaine finally getting together. The Kiss Heard 'Round Tumblr. I wish I didn't get spoiled for it, my own fault for tooling around Tumblr prior to watching the episode (it was spoiled less than an hour before the ep aired) but holy fuck, the Kurt/Blaine parts of that episode are golden.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
That I will write fic that doesn't suck and that I will get to read awesome fic. That's all I can ask for as far as fandom. With regards to anticipation, oh god, Tom Hardy in a Batman movie. I don't know what to expect.
I will probably lose my shit during The Dark Knight Rises or The Hobbit. I expect The Avengers to be a popcorn flick, hopefully with lots of slash potential.
